Prologue

I'm a full time mum to 3 beautiful children; Ihsan 4, Umayr 3 and Sofiyya 1. My husband, Sujuandy suggested that I start a blog so that life will be more interesting for me i.e. I won't be so bored all the time. So here I am.... see more photos of my kids here.

I love reading and writing and am currently into Asperger Syndrome cause my second child has been diagnosed with having symptoms of Asperger's.Apart from that I do the normal stuff of caring for the children, keeping house and cooking.

When my kids are home, I try to practice the Montessori method. I have some of the equipment and it's been satisfying to see how much my eldest has benefited from it, cause he already knows most of the stuff needed in kindergarten before he started school at N2 at the end of the school year. My second one's more challenging, as they say every child is special.

My third is an angel, well, she still doesn't know how to disagree and do the opposite of what you tell her to do, so .....

I'm getting bored so I think I'll get back to the other stuff I have to do. 5 years of staying at home has shortened my attention span.

Wa alaikum salaam

he's perfectly fine, if i try to ignore the finer flaws,i imagine there's nothing wrong with him and it's a misdiagnosis.

Asperger Syndrome (AS)is sometimes referred to as high-functioning autism.as autism is a spectrum there are many different levels. Some scholars however argue that asperger should have its own category. (re: Steward, Kathryn,Helping a Child with non-verbal learning disorder or Asperger's Syndrome)

There are basically 3 basic areas affected by Asperger;1. visual-spacial skill and sensory motor integration, 2. Pragmatic language and social skill development, 3. Information processing and organisational skills.

For example a child affected by AS has problems understanding facial expressions when communicating with others and take the literal meaning of whatever is said to them as they lack pragmatic language skills.

The more I read the more I think he doesn't have it but I'm leaving it to the experts and help him where i can.

His school has Individual Education Plans (IEP) for children with special needs. We are going with that first and if need be we'll get a second opinion.

maybe next time i'll share tots on Montessori.I'm continuing that with Umayr as AS kids learn better through concrete methods and Ihsan thrives on it too.even Sofiyya loves the sandpaper cards.

What triggered you to go for specialist opinion? When I saw him the other day, he looked absolutely fine.

Azman's cousin, whose father is a HOD EL at TPJC, was also diagnosed with autism when he was younger. Last year at Sec 2, he topped his class. I guess with time and normal exposure to social interaction, Insya Allah he will be fine. But of course consider other opinions too.

I hope you and yr husband will make wise choices for him. You take care.

Are you coping okay with it?
