Back to our roots

It's been a long time since my last blog and I miss reflecting on what we did as a homeschooling family. Today I made up a story about a seamstress whose three children helped her and her husband make a dress so beautiful , the princess loved it and ordered nine more for the ten nights of dancing that was coming. They were rewarded with ten bars of gold for each dress which meant that they earned 100 gold bars in all. The mother was reluctant to accept the orders at first but when the children revealed that they were the secret helpers she became confident of carrying out the work. She then decided to keep only fourty of the gold bars and divide the rest among her three children. As their mother was fair, they each got the same number of bars; 20.

Umayr has just learned division and Sofiyya is working on counting to hundred and was just introduced to the decimal system. There was nothing new for Ihsan but he enjoyed identifying parts of the story that I borrowed from classics. The children then drew the lesson into their lesson books.
