Outdoor Learning

Yesterday, I wanted to take a break from our daily routine and decided to have breakfast outside with the kids. I did not however want them to miss school, so the children did some work while waiting for me to get ready and we brought one set of work to do at the food outlet. When having school outside try to do something that the children have already learned and does not require too much explaining from you. So it could be written practice for Math or review of a particular science topic which the students can read through as part of the session. Also try to incorporate something at the place you are going to be more productive. For example, if you are at the mall, the children can also visit the library or if there is a playground or park nearby you can squeeze in some outdoor or nature time. Studying outside is a nice change once in a while, especially if you live in the city and do not have outdoors the children can run around in or, if like me, you are constantly surrounded by the view of cold concrete. So the next time your kids look forlorn and lack interest in what you're teaching, pack them off with your homeschool books and go outside to learn. Nobody said you have to stay home to homeschool.
