Holidays

Been in a kind of holiday mood, though we are still having school actually. It must be in the air. I am currently trying to set my plans for the rest of the year. There are days when I don't really care whether the kids learn anything. However, out of my desire for order, I make sure there is always some work done.

The Waldorf lesson plans from www.earthschooling.com has been really helpful in making extensions to our Montessori plans. I think every once in a while, it's nice to try out something new. It keeps things fresh.

I particularly love their stories and verses. It has a very rich literary content; every moment can be filled with poetry and stories. My son loves the story of pairs; actually the two time table. Although I find this interesting, I feel that this can only come after working with materials hands on to see the concept of multiplication itself.

I feel Montessori provide the essence and Waldorf the spice.

I have been dreaming of having my own enrichment classes on weekends and working with other kids. That's my biggest problem, I'm such a procrastinator and I always wonder if what I do is good enough, though I've seen classes at ridiculous prices which do nothing for the child.

Oh well..... in the meantime I'll be reading Jhumpa Lahiri's ' The Namesake' and taking a break from education literature; well ok, until at least Thursday when I have to read for my Montessori Observation course.
