Water?

This is the part where the theme gets lost till a new one is introduced. Well, its into its second week, I think we've done ok. I'm going to do 'earth' next week, now is sort of a transition period. I like how it turned out and I think we are going ' theme'y for many more lessons to come.

It rained early this morning, the boys were excited to see how many snails we'll catch sight of today when we went to the playground. It was a record 25 snails from the last high of 15. We managed to get through the presentations for today when it rained. I did days of the week with the younger kids and Ihsan did 'the year and its parts'.

For Ihsan's presentation I basically printed out 6 copies of a one page calendar of the year from enchantedlearning.com, cut out each month and pasted them on a long strip of yellow paper. The strip is then basically folded into half, third, quarter, sixth and twelfth to show the different divisions of the year. One strip was left to show the whole year.

Ihsan was also taught the semester, bimester and trimester. I used fraction puzzles from his fraction work to represent the year in fraction but I plain forgot that they stop at tenths and had to come up with a single twelfth at the last minute.

At the end of the school day, Umayr made 'doll gliders'; dolls with paper aeroplanes strapped with masking tape on them.I wish I could show them here but I'm having problems attaching pictures to my blog. He ended up putting paper aeroplanes on at least half a dozen soft toys.
