Library Day

Yesterday was library day and I think I feel as much joy as the children in borrowing the books even though I usually get only books for the homeschool. Being the disorganised person that I am, I don't come with lists. I tried to do that before, but it seems that I'm limiting myself to tried and tested books and it can be costly booking so many books. Hence, now I come with keywords in my head of what I'm covering and going to cover in homeschool as I roam along the aisles searching for anything that I can use.

Imagine me trying to reason with my kids that they don't need to borrow that one more book. Well, to cover myself I actually limit the number they can borrow, at least five, for leisure reading. Between the three of us we can borrow 52 books, which is usually spread out between two trips, which is usually in a fortnight, as I use some books over a longer period.

Before going to the library, we went to the rooftop garden at Lot 1 , which is also a blessing for me because we used to go to IMM a lot plus over here we can go to the library. Presently of course there is a pasar malam going on and I love going there to get stickers and activity books the kids can entertain themselves quietly with without having to ask me to do it along with them. ( I do need time to myself, right?)

This led to an unexpected fervour for tracing which Ihsan started when he traced the princesses from Sofiyya's book. Umayr, who refused to get anything at the pasar malam earlier, started doing the activities in his sister's book and in fact finished them, and joined in the tracing craze that I had to repeatedly tell them that they have to go to bed. They continued the tracing the next morning and afternoon, working hard on the 'nose' which they both find challenging.
Oh yeah, I must mention that we observed National Day today before going to the library. I briefly talked about Singapore's 44 year history and how we came to be where we are today. For our main lesson, we drew what our dream for Singapore was; I wanted nature at everybody's footstep, Ihsan wanted everyone to play soccer and for everything to be free and Sofiyya wanted heart shaped flowers. Umayr just wanted to draw the flag....
