Long Break
In preparation for the new addition to the family, I managed to push myself to do some planning and copying work materials for the children. We have not been doing much hands-on stuff and outings in my state and I have only managed to stay on the work we find with our books. A break from my personal leaning pursuit has now turned into a pre- natal break which will soon become maternity leave. Well, I take comfort in the fact that the children are not just lazing around and still go outdoors for some physical activity.
Not that they are ever short of ideas, there's always reading to do of course, other than that they'd be playing badminton in the hallway, building tents, drawing and playing cards or boardgames. Lack of TV on weekdays has only made them more creative with their time that I feel ashamed when I get bored.
Today I did a review of classification with Ihsan. We used DK's Internet linked encyclopedia as the text for natural life and referred to the natural world chart which you can download for free at www.montessoriforeveyone.com as a visual reference. It was timely that there was an eclipse recently as I could link it to how important the cycle of night and day and of sunlight was and how an eclipse was a reminder of the day the world ends when even the sun, an element of life, would be destroyed.
Sofiyya has been having a thing for France and all things French lately, thanks to the books she has been reading. One of them is the 'Fancy Nancy' series where the main character likes to use 'fancy' words, especially French words. Today, I used two of the books from the series for her to start her own collection of French words. She digged it. I also downloaded a French alphabet app on the iPad for her. When she saw an ad by Alliance Francais where you could win a ticket to Paris if you signed up with them, she was ecstatic. It was right out of the Anastasia book she has been reading. No, we are not signing up for French lessons,at least not yet.
