Story of the Earth

Today we continued with the Story of the Earth with a wet on wet painting on how early Earth was like with red and yellow. It goes something like;

When mother earth first came about, it was a great ball of fire, cause Father Fire burnt so violently that sparks flew across the skies like fireworks. ( Draw in circles to form a yellow ball as Earth, then from the centre make a tiny red circle with strokes outwards and dripping).

From this great marriage, Brother Air was born (lightly circle the earth with red ) but most of it was carbon dioxide that no life can exist then.

This is like an abridged version of the Story of the Earth. I use the book; "Children of the Universe" by Michael and D'neil Duffy to help me with my Great Lessons. Of course, Miss Barbara's website is a huge help as well . (www.missbarbara.net)

With the upcoming Deepavali, we read "Why is this Festival Special-Divali" from Franklin Watts. In the afternoon, the children attempted to make a rangoli. I put a few scoops of rice into cups of water that has been added with food colouring in the morning and dried them out by the window.

We used the triangle cabinet to make the patterns before putting the glue on prior to sticking the rice onto our designs. I'm not sure Montessori will agree with this.

It was pretty messy but they enjoyed themselves. After that I let them spread butter and sugar on toast for practical life. Oh ok, I wanted to eat some toast.
