Ramadan Day 3
We are in the middle of the first week of Ramadan! Time really flies masyaAllah. So our Ramadan lesson today was on the Sunnah of smiling. I tried a painting method where you taped the picture or words you want and the children just paint over them.
Sarah was overly generous with her water so the tape stuck to the paper. I had naively used double-sided tape with the hope of sticking glitter after she painted, but in the end Sarah had to put glue on the white space.
She then worked on a page from her Ramadan-themed pack from teacherspayteachers. It has activities covering, language, math and Islam, among other things. It was good for something she can quietly do on her own.
After working with her older siblings, I continued with Sarah and Aisyah with Hena Khan's Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns which has a section on dates being eaten in Ramadan.
The beautiful geometric designs in the book reminded me of A Crafty Arab's star threading activity. I asked Sarah how she can get a star from a square, she couldn't figure it out till I put a square on top of the star cutout. She then punched holes at the eight points (we probably can extend this to the 8 tables next), but only agreed to the threading activity after her second star.
I don't know how horses go with Ramadan but her next one is a unicorn.
To end we made dates milkshake.
