Hinhede Nature Park
Today we had a diversion from our usual routine, something I think the kids and I need. We read 'Lakes and Ponds' by Fran Howard during lesson story time. Ihsan then wrote down his narration in his geography book and I wrote Umayr's for him. I let the children draw their own lake and try to put their own ideas of what lives and grows there. Sofiyya was drawing her 'family' people.
Then, for outdoors, I took the kids to Hinhede Nature Park which is actually the other side of the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. Strangely the kids weren't crazy about the slides that go down the slopes of the hill as they were on our first trip there but were more interested in exploring the trampoline, swings and the flying fox.
At the lake, we got our papers out and made sketches of what we saw. Sofiyya apparently was not in the loop and was drawing her usual 'family' people. Only after looking at what the rest of us were sketching did she realise her error; not that I mind. Two retirees were also with us there; one sketching and one making a huge oil painting. Umayr was mesmerised; more with them than the scenery I think.
He sketched an extra picture with his crayons, as did Sofiyya who was more into joining her brother than anything and two more after lunch which we had at the pavillion nearby.
On our way back, we walked on the hanging bridge. It was not high and very short but having to care for Sofiyya who was walking at 10m per hour and balancing the picnic basket, it was one of the longest journey in my most recent life.
I loved it and I think I can see that the children loved it...an escape from urban life...
