PINK POWER

This week we started with our new theme of 'Salar de Uyuni' a beautiful place in Bolivia which has been called the largest mirror in the world because of how the water reflects the sky so clearly for stretches of land. We continue with our study on birds as the PINK flamingos breed there and it is double happiness for my daughter because South America is PINK in the Montessori continent map.

My friend, Safeenah sent me some pictures on the Salar which is Spanish for salt flat and I was in awe. After looking at these pictures and more on the web and discussing what we see, we looked at the coloured globe to find South America and the atlas of the world to find the same continent.

I had maps printed out from www.eduplace.com. Sofiyya located South America and coloured it pink, Umayr did the same and labelled the continent while Ihsan labelled all the countries in the South American continent and marked Bolivia with an 'X'.

Sofiyya always says that she will work in South America when she grows up and always get teased by her brothers for wanting to do so because of the economic conditions of the country but she nevertheless tells me that she still wants to go there. The power of PINK....
