Preparing For Ramadan

It's amazing how fast time flies, I still recall the first year of training the boys to fast where as early as ten o'clock in the morning they would be whining from hunger. Back then, they only fasted half of the day and I can only find solace in the hope that this was just early growing pains. Alhamdulillah, it got better each year and experiences like these always remind me that there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. Ok, there IS a light.

I tend to gravitate to astronomy, history, food and biology apart from trying to do more of the Quran and Hadith during Ramadan. Planning for more cooking, crafts and handywork is also a good way to keep the children occupied. Busy hands really produce busy minds. Thanks to a fellow homeschooler, I will be using the Islamic Social Studies and the My Fun Workbook series by Goodword as the core of my lessons from now till September.

For Arabic, inspired by a discussion on the arabiclearningmaterials discussion group, insyaallah, I hope to go through the meanings of al-Fatihah and the three Kuls. I am one of those parents who I have to admit find joy in having my children memorize more and more surahs without knowing their meanings. The translations of the juz amma from Ad-Duha which have been sitting in their dusty box will also come in handy should we get the chance to look at other surahs. I pray Allah will grant me the istiqamah to continue after Ramadan of course.
