The Last Ten Days
We got distracted a bit this week with buying clothes for Eid for everyone. In fact, we have been going out since last week, having been confined to the home for the first two weeks of Ramadan, which was quite the limit. I was also more confident of the boys ability to fast for the day without me taking them out causing them to want to break their fast.
For these last days of Ramadan, we're tying up loose ends and just adding zakat and Eid to the lessons. To teach the kids about zakat, I made use of the letter sent by MUIS which explained the requirement to pay zakat and the eight asnaf who qualify for help.
We also learned who the mufti was, his face happened to be in the information card on zakat that came with the letter, it was a good way for the children to know the different types of leadership that exist for Muslims living in a non-Muslim country. Our moon phases chart is almost complete and we are left with the zakat section on our lapbook.
I will mostly use the Eid Mubarak book from Goodword for learning about Eid and tie it in with our study of Muslim countries based on the material provided by Ad-Duha Freezone that we started with Saudi Arabia the last two weeks. We hope to finish everything by Wednesday latest before we take a week or two break for Eid and spend some time catching up with family especially since the children will meet their only cousins from Brunei whom they have not met for two years.
May the blessings of the last ten nights, especially lailatul Qadr, be with us, as we continue the last ten days of fasting which have lately been hotter and drier than the earlier part,InsyaAllah.
